The Long Now
Public art installation at Bostwick Community Centre | London, Ontario | 2019
A trip to the London Archaeology Museum provides one with a different sense of time, a prehistoric time, a time when glaciers once covered our site, and when they receded. There is the time of first inhabitation and the time of Indigenous settlement. First contact and white settlement is only one marker along the way — It is not the beginning of the story and hence our images do not begin there but in this larger cosmos described. The work takes a longer view of time, "The Long Now" into account transporting viewers into a timeless space with the horizon and light as a locus, connecting the building’s linear masses and the surrounding landscape.
